This is some personal work and comes under two projects for me. One is my passion for independent businesses. I shot a body of work a few years ago which looked at the decline of independent business called ‘Dying Breeds’. The other is a little personal project that I have called Birmingham artists but it’s really about Birmingham people.

These boys Steven and Nathan are PolarBear Records, an independent shop on York Road. Well, Steve is and Nathan works there. There are lots of independents on that road too, you should all check it out and support.

They are what I call real Brummies and know everything about all kinds of amazing music. I met then at a beautiful jazz night at the CBSO centre where Tord Gustansen Trio played the most beautiful music.

I spent the afternoon in their shop, they’re super friendly chaps and make an ace cuppa!
